20140505-200100.jpgI fell in love with Raymond Peynet’s whimsical series of The Poet and his Lover when I first laid eyes on them. They are the most charming illustrations of two lovers in a series of magical adventures and scenarios. Here is a link to his website to explore more peynet.com.

Jerianne’s love of sailing has influenced our nautical themed decor. These two sailboat models sit proudly in our living room, but if you look closer, someone else reigns supreme.

This Charlie Brown Tree sits by our regular sized tree, but it always gets the most comments from friends and family. Warm wishes this holiday season and have a Happy New Year!

Must Have Lips

When it comes to makeup, I like to kept it simple. I tend to keep the focus on my lips and rotate between these  tried and true staples. For a pop of color, I grab the Chanel in Rebelle. I like how the red orange hue brightens up my face. My one desert item, all time favorite, can’t live without item is definitely the papaw ointment. It keeps my lips moisturized for hours. They don’t distribute to the U.S. so your best bet is purchasing through Amazon or net-a-porter.com.

For The Heart Of It

Stationary

This soapstone heart from Kenya has pride of place on my desk. Yes, I use it as a paper weight, but I can’t help but smile whenever I happen to glance at it while I’m working. It has truly become my talisman of ideas and encouragement.

Church Dog

by Avant C

On our way inside St. Dominic’s Cathedral, we bumped into this adorable dog waiting patiently in front of the church doors. It put a smile on our faces to see the little guy so friendly and well behaved. Makes you wonder if he’s also touched from heaven above. jb

Things That Make Us Smile-Bookmarks

by Avant C

Books, books, and more books. I am a voracious reader and always need a book at hand. I’m not a literary snob though. I’ll read just about anything from the classics, to bestsellers, to a feel good chick lit. I could never read just one book at a time. I inconvenience myself by toting around a bunch of books with me that weigh a ton. Then Jerianne brought up the sacrilege that is the ebook device. I thought, no thanks. No ipad or kindle for me, until  Jerianne bought me one last Christmas.  I now have thousands of books ready at my fingertips. I am a convert, to some degree.  Nothing beats the real thing though. I do miss the feel of the book spine, the comforting smell, and the familiar, welcoming sound of the turning page. It never quite feels complete without the handy bookmark that peeks out from the top of a good book, which brings a smile to my face.  I want to share some of my favorites:

Fr top left clockwise: LLBean Cedarwood Sailboat, Tiffany & Co. Round Sterling Silver, Carrot & Stick Press “This Is Where I Fell Asleep,” Made by Jerianne.

I bought the L.L. Bean bookmark at the L.L Bean flagship store in Freeport, Maine during one of our summer road trips. The Tiffany’s bookmark clip was a Christmas gift from Jerianne. I thought the “This Is Where I Fell Asleep” bookmark was so adorable and bought it at a moving out sale from Carrot and Stick Press, which prints unique one-of-a-kind paper products, from stationary, notebooks,  gift cards, to placemats. Jerianne made one for me on my birthday years ago. It’s already so worn that I’m careful about using it.-c.c.
